OUR AUTUMN/WINTER WORKSHOP SERIES:

Sustainable Soy Candle-making Workshop & Grazing Lunch SUNDAY 19TH OCTOBER 10.30am start (approx 3 hours)

Your tutor, Nicola Heaney, the founder of The Blue Barn Candle Company, is a chandler who creates eco-friendly candles. She became involved in Candlemaking after working for over 20 years overseas as a linguist, working with several luxury perfume and designer brands.

At the start of the workshop you will choose your own unique vessel for your candle, hand-thrown and glazed exclusively for us in beautiful earth tones by master potter Dylan Cross, Artists Poulton, who has thrown our bespoke stoneware for many years.

During the workshop you will be introduced to the art of candlemaking, learning basic notions before moving on to the practical part of the course, making a sustainable soy wax candle to take home with you.

You will learn about different types of waxes and fragrances and how they can affect the environment and even your health. You will also be introduced to fragrance pyramids, and how fragrance ratios and wick sizes are vital for optimal candle performance.

Gypsy Style Foraging Basket Workshop & 2-Course Lunch SATURDAY 31ST JANUARY 2026 10am start (Full Day, approx 7 hours)

This workshop will be led by Amy Gunawan. Amy is a willow weaver and basket maker based in Lancaster, Lancashire.

She enjoys working with her hands and manipulating willow to create things that are both beautiful and functional.

In her workshops she loves to share her knowledge, offering people a space to take time out from their busy lives, to enjoy the creative process and to be in the present moment: get absorbed in the sensory experience of willow weaving, the rustic textures, the smell of the willow and the sound of the rods rustling together as you weave. The beauty and warmth of working with a natural material as well as the quirks that it brings makes every piece unique.

In this workshop you will learn how to make a rustic ‘frame’ basket. This style of basket starts with 2 hoops which form the handle and top of the basket, we’ll then weave into the frame adding in ribs which give the basket its structure. Working at your own pace, Amy will take you through each stage and you’ll learn how to weave with this wonderful material. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

  • All materials and tools will be provided, no previous experience is necessary

  • Midway through the day you will be served a two-course light lunch by Trough

  • Guests will be sent further menu details prior to the day.

  • Unlimited locally-sourced, hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks are included throughout

  • All prices are inclusive of VAT

  • Investment £150.00
